Smart Home & AV Networking
The network behind your connected home.
We design and manage wired and wireless networks for homes and estates with automation, lighting control, distributed AV, cameras and other connected equipment.
We install and manage the network that supports your smart-home systems. We do not install or program Crestron, Lutron, Savant, or Control4 systems.
We handle the network infrastructure and coordinate with your automation, AV, lighting and security professionals on the connections their systems require.
What we support at the network layer
Reliable wired infrastructure
Structured cabling and switching for control processors, AV racks, cameras, access points, bridges, workstations, and other fixed equipment.
Wi-Fi planned for your property
Indoor and outdoor coverage planned for the rooms, patios, outbuildings and equipment that need a wireless connection.
Communication between devices
We account for device discovery, multicast and the communication required between compatible systems.
Network separation that fits your home
We separate guest, IoT, private, security and automation networks where appropriate, while keeping the connections and discovery your installed systems require.
Already working with an automation or AV integrator?
We work alongside your existing integrator. Your automation professional handles installation, programming, and commissioning of those systems.
Starlight handles the network foundation: switching, Wi-Fi, firewall configuration, wired connectivity, appropriate network separation, documentation and troubleshooting of the network those systems use.
When the network becomes the problem
When a touch panel, camera or audio system loses connectivity, the cause may be in the network or the connected equipment. We check Wi-Fi coverage, wired connections, discovery, segmentation and rack organization to identify where the issue belongs.
If the issue is within the automation or AV system, we coordinate with the professional responsible for that equipment.
- Touch panels or controllers intermittently losing connectivity
- Audio devices disappearing from apps or controllers
- Weak Wi-Fi around patios, pools, gates, or detached buildings
- Cameras or gate equipment dropping offline
- Automation equipment that works inconsistently across network segments
- AV racks with unclear cabling or unmanaged network equipment
- Problems that multiple vendors keep describing as “a network issue”
Built for connected-home environments
Our networks may support environments using systems such as Crestron, Lutron, Savant, Control4, Sonos, and other IP-connected home technologies. The exact network requirements depend on the equipment, property, and integrator design.
Examples of systems our networks may support. Product names are shown for recognition and do not imply manufacturer affiliation.
New construction or major renovation
Plan cabling, rack locations, switching and indoor/outdoor Wi-Fi before construction limits your options. We coordinate network requirements with the teams installing automation and AV.
Existing smart home
We review the existing network, document its connections and plan coverage or switching improvements while preserving the communication requirements of the systems already installed.
Let's review your home's network.
Tell us which systems are installed, the problems you are seeing, or what you are planning to add. We will review the network requirements with you and recommend the next step.
